The challenge

Whether a recommendation is good or bad is ultimately decided by the recipient of the recommendation. However, during this assessment, the user's context plays a key role. The same recommendation can be perceived as good in one situation and bad in another. Therefore, recommendations should be matched to the user's context. Today, there are already numerous possibilities for determining this context, e.g. the location via the user's IP address or the type of his or her end device. This information must be examined for its relevance in terms of generating a recommendation, and ways must be found to integrate these parameters into the computation of recommendations.

The YOOCHOOSE solution

YOOCHOOSE LABS is currently developing context-based processes that allow the integration of available information regarding the user's context into the computation of recommendations. Examples of such context include location, time of day, current weather conditions or the type of end device. If the user is logged in via an Internet-capable phone, one may assume that he or she is on the go and will have a correspondingly small screen for viewing.
